Working out the sun
New York Change
Your browser will ask first. The location stays on this device and is only used to work out the sun.
Drag the sun to change the time. Drag the glowing wedge to aim it, or its edges to widen it. Tap the sky to point it there. Arrow keys work too.
What does it face?
A fist held out at arm's length covers about 10°. Count fists from the horizon up to the roofline or treeline across from you.
Waiting for the compass…
Hold the phone flat with its top edge toward the window, or stand in the window and point the back of the phone out. Phone compasses are often 10 to 20° off, more near metal and speakers, and they find magnetic north, not true north. When the sun is out, point at it and tap "Line it up with the sun" to fix both. Motion readings stay on this device.
Direct sun through the year
